MEP Roberta Metsola pledges to continue to defend the interests of all Maltese and Gozitans

In a hard hitting speech to the General Council of the Nationalist Party, Member of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola slammed the Government’s citizenship sale scheme and promised to continue to defend the interests of all Maltese and Gozitans in the European Parliament.

“This cash-for-passports scandal has diminished Malta’s standing in the world and badly damaged our reputation. The Government is selling Maltese citizenship cheaply and is selling the country short. We are simply selling citizenship without any conditions or ties to Malta. This sent the message to the world that Malta was ready to sell its soul for a bit of cash”, said MEP Metsola.

MEP Metsola also took the Labour Government to task on the forced removal of the former Chairman of the Malta Communications Authority, Antonio Ghio saying that this was one of many taken by a Labour Government that did not respect individual rights and made a mockery of EU obligations. “Like many others, he was removed simply for not being part of Labour’s inner circle”, said MEP Metsola.

Referring to the halting of proceedings to give Australia Hall back to the public from the Labour Party, MEP Metsola said that “party and Government have become the same thing, not only are Labour employees now on the State pay roll but the Government has just given a 10million Euro gift to the Labour Party”.

“Labour media and apologists, accuse us of not defending the national interest, I tell them that this is exactly what I am doing and what I will keep on doing. I will remain the voice in Europe of all Malta and Gozo and of every Maltese and Gozitan and whenever there is need to speak out to defend you, you will find me there” concluded MEP Metsola.
